Realization and relief.
Ted here.
Kathy cried alot today. Not from the pain, but from the emotional release of having to be so strong physically this last week. She has been through so much.
This last two days respite has allowed her to personally talk to some dear friends and emotionally let down her defense. It is hard to watch Kathy cry, but so necessary to her healing.
In person or on the phone, those lucky enough to tell her you love her know what I'm talking about.
Hearing that so many are pulling for her, has really touched Kathy in such a great way.
You all are her strength.
Tomorrow Kathy goes in for some big time rebuild surgery. Her surgeon met with us today and said the left knee/leg is about as complicated a break as you can get. Forget about comparing breaks with people in the future because there is no comparison!
These last two days have been great. Tomorrow will not be nearly as fun.
Eventually you will come to understand that love heals everything, and love is all there is. ~ Gary Zukav

Am I boring you?
The first week was hard to find time to update this. I'm trying to be more on top of it now, since a TON of people want to know how Kathy is doing.
Today is almost over. One for the books. Sometimes I feel like I'm writing a book.
The greatest story ever!
Great stories have;
Colorful characters with unforgettable personalities - Got that for sure!
Love & passion - lots of that! In abundance! Overflowing!
Struggle & possible tragedy - "possible" because I think in a tragedy someone dies & THAT's not going to happen!
Drama & uncertainty - Oh Boy! In spades! Even before...
Unpredictable twists - interesting, unexpected, involving everyone's favorite character.
(Roads, wheels, handlebars, ankles and knees - sorry, that's my sick humor side)
Heroes & villains - Lots of Heroes - Kathy's friends fill these ranks. Still working on the villain side.
Triumph - My Favorite part! It's the part of the story that everything leads up to. It satisfies, leaving you with a good feeling that it was all worth it and tomorrow is worth getting up for.
We're in the Drama & uncertainty part of this story, with love & heroes throughout.
Kathy's life was already an amazing story before I ever met her.
If anyone deserves a truly happy ending, it's this girl!

Thank you!
Ted here. Very big response from everyone in our lives!
I have been getting texts wishing Kathy well from phone numbers I don't even know!
I read them all to Kathy. Along with the comments on the Blogspot. The Rogue Suspects were wondering if their comments were getting through - Yes. Thank you.
You will see Kathy dancing again, I promise!
So many Thank you's to say already. I'll save the individual ones because there are so many.
Thank you for the balloons & flowers! Valley Immediate Care, Interventional Pain Consultants, Slakey Bros. and Thermal Supply (who happened to send the same flowers and ribbon as our wedding! Kathy noticed!)
It is so great to know that I'm not the only one who sees what a unusually special person Kathy is! Please don't forget her. This is going to be a long road.

The only funny side I see in this
This is Ted again - I haven't mentioned the critters Kathy occasionally sees. Michelle started to, but there is more.
The first "vision" I remember Kathy talking about is the closet door's yellow handle looking like a french fry. I could see the resemblance, so we agreed.
When she started seeing kittens or rabbits scurrying across the floor, I chalked it up to those spots of motion we all get in the corner of our eye once in a while.
The squirrel that didn't go away though, that was weird. She said it was just resting on her leg!
Ronda informed us that it was the Dilaudid that causes these apparitions - whew! That's a relief! Now we can have some fun with this!
Since then, Kathy has seen AND HEARD a white weasel coming down from the exhaust vent in the ceiling. She was even asking us if we see it. When we said we couldn't, she said, "You can hear it though, right?" Um,...not really... Not so much.
There is more; like the file shelf hanging on the wall that she thought was a little man with his back turned to her. We'll see her look at something and when I ask what, she'll pause and say, "Nothing,.. I thought I saw something."
Now that she is aware these are "visions", Kathy doesn't point them out as much.
As long as she isn't seeing fire breathing dragons or giant spiders, I think it's okay.
Kind of cute & funny!

Yay! She's Hungry! ~"Let's Eat!"
Good morning, A little bit of rest was what was in order for all. Ronda & I slept for a few hours in the waiting room this morning. When we came back to Kathy's room at 4:00 a.m. Ted was sound asleep in bed with her. It was a precious sight I will not forget. Kathy got a few good hours of sleep as well.
Kathy sat-up in bed and said "I'm hungry, let's order some breakfast!" This is the 1st time I've heard her say she is hungry, that's a good thing! Kathy hasn't lost her sense of humor, still cracking jokes & making us laugh. Kathy has visitors of little critters in her room scuttling across the floor. Kathy said "did you see my kitty? Ronda, "No, it's the dilaudid!" It was funny to us.:) Humor, patience and lots of tlc are in order for Kathy for a long time to come. Ronda & I have to head home today... I'm not looking forward to leaving Kathy. Her nurses are great, but she relys upon us to try & keep her comfortable however possible, re-positioining her leg, feeding her ice chips, rubbing the crown of her head~all things I look forward to do when I come back next Friday.
